We Should Know CUFF (Calgary Underground Film Festival)

Since 2003, the Calgary Underground Film Festival has screened films that defy convention, showcasing features, documentaries, animations and shorts by indie filmmakers from around the world. Ever wondered how they do it? Join us for We Should Know CUFF to meet the programmers who make it happen and ask them your burning questions about this boundary-breaking film festival. (Plus, enjoy some scones and coffee!)

After the Q&A, join us for a screening of We Are the Best (Vi är bäst), a Swedish coming-of-age drama adapted from the graphic novel Never Goodnight. It follows Bobo, Klara and Hedvig, three 13-year-old girls trying to survive adolescence in early 80s Stockholm. Like all alienated teenagers, they’re equal parts brave, frustrated, angry and strange.

Everyone’s saying punk is dead, but apparently the girls haven’t heard the news. Taking a cue from every other punk great before them (it’s not knowing how to play that matters, just the attitude), the gang of preteen misfits starts their own loud and brash power trio. The girls not only discover the perfect outlet for their rebellious leanings, but the limits of tolerance from the square adults around them.
